Questions and Answers
-
How much does it cost to build a cedar log home.
- On an average, within our 4-state area, the cost of
building a log home is $95.00 to $100.00 square foot.
Yes, this is the best quality of wood you can
get, "Northern White Cedar." This price includes
everything except a well, septic, excavation to your
property and we do not stain or paint. Most of the
homeowners will paint and stain themselves to save
money. We are different from most log home companies.
We own our own company, so we do things a little
different. Our goal is for our customers to have the
best quality in their home and as much equity as
possible, by the time they move in. We have a
contract for the log kit and a contract for our
carpentry labor only. Everything else, we get at our
discounted contractors price for the homeowner. So
really the cost of building your home is up to you and
your taste.
-
Are Cedar Log Homes less energy efficient than
traditional homes?
- The energy efficiency of a cedar log home far
outways the traditional home. We are talking approx.
48% more energy savings. When energy prices continue to
rise, this can be a tremendous savings to the homeowner.
Log homes in general are on the rise because of this
savings and the durability of our homes. View our Energy Efficiency Reports by clicking the thumbnails individually below.

-
How long will it take to build my cedar log home?
- An average home will take approx. 3 months from
start to finish. This could vary, depending on the size
and the amount of corners in the house.
- Is fire a more serious problem with cedar log homes?
- Fire can be extremely painful in any situation.
Have you ever tried putting a whole log in a fire by
itself and attempt to burn it? It's very difficult.
Most of the time it will smolder and burn itself out.
This would be even more difficult in a complete log
wall. To be honest with you, a brick home will burn
faster than a log home because of the combustion able
material that's inside.
- What about termites and wood rot?
- It's a known fact that termites will not touch any
type of cedar because of a chemical that is nature grown
in the wood itself and it's also resistant to rot or
decay. Some other qualities about Northern White Cedar
is that it has the highest insulation quality of any
wood in existence (this is because of the millions of
tiny air cells it has inside), it's also mildew
resistant, has less moisture content inside than any
wood (16%), the lightest wood per cubic foot of any
woods (an 8 foot log weighs about 44 pounds), and has a
25 year warranty on all log building products produced
by Maine Cedar Specialty Products against material
workmanship and defects.
-
How long will a cedar log home last?
- Due to the facts that I have given you above, the
existence of a cedar log home is far greater than our
life span could reach.
- I live outside in Colorado, how far will you travel to
build a cedar log home?
- We would travel as far as necessary to accommodate
your needs.
- Will I need to hire any additional contractors to finish
my cedar log home?
- No. I am a General Contractor and I will provide
you with the necessary Sub-Contractors to complete your
house. Some people may have certain Sub-Contractors
within their families or maybe friends that they would
like to use during their construction. I have no
problem with this and will be glad to work with them in
any way possible to assure a quality built log home.
